Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Specialist Skills
In depth experience of current Data Analysis practice, including the application of industry standard methodologies, techniques and tools - knowledge of logical data modelling and physical database design.
Knowledge of software application architecture
Familiarity with component and layer architecture models
A broad commercial experience, together with full knowledge and understanding of current food retail business processes and trends
Up to date knowledge of current trends in the complex and rapidly changing field of Information Technology and recent in-depth experience of its application to business problems
Team Management processes including scheduling, planning, monitoring, issue management and people management
Strong analytical ability

Analysis, Judgement and Decision – able logically to break down problems/situations into their essential parts and draw reasonable conclusions based on their analysis and provide a suitable solution
Communication – effective at conveying accurate information using the most appropriate methods to reflect the needs of the audience and ensuring mutual understanding

Qualification and Experience
Normally the jobholder will have a good degree (or the equivalent in education and experience) and over 10 years professional data analysis experience. This should include having fulfilled the role of Design Authority or Data Architecture in at least one major corporation or on a major programme, preferably in the food retail sector
Highly experienced practitioner in the planning, design and implementation of the overall data architecture for an enterprise or major programme, preferably in the food retail sector
Experienced in the definition of data migration strategies and design principles
Contacts and Communications
Able to participate proactively in the management of Business Change. Work closely with senior colleagues and maintain an awareness of all areas of activity.
Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with major stakeholders and ensure that their expectations are positively managed.
Able to maintain an awareness of technological developments and current best practice in the IT industry and the Retail sector
Dimensions of the Job
This will typically include:
Overall responsibility for the data architecture for an enterprise or programme involving a capital investment of up to £20 million per annum
Direction of up to 15 professional business and Information Systems staff at any one time, and of a much larger team that could include external suppliers, IS professionals and administrative resources under matrix management.
